What is a last, and how many lasts does Grant Stone have?Updated 11 days ago
A last is the wood or plastic mold on which the shoe upper is built. It determines the upper's shape, fit, and aesthetics. We design our own lasts, and this process can take years, given the wear testing and revisions required before commercialization. See all of our lasts here.
Men's Collection—Due to the volume offered in our lasts, even our standard width usually accommodates a higher instep and a fuller foot shape. Our Alexander, Leo, and Floyd lasts offer similar overall volume, and customers typically wear the same size in all three. Choosing a wider width, such as an E or EEE, will help increase the overall volume (length, width, and depth). We do offer width options (D, E, EE, and EEE) in our boots, shoes, and loafer collections, but only D and EE in our Chelsea Boots and Elias Boots. For all of our men's styles, we offer sizes 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12, and 13.
Women's Collection—Our women’s boots (Nora, Josephine Chelsea, and Combat boots) are designed with a generous fit. While we don't offer any wide-width options for the women's collection, we designed these to fit true to your standard women’s US shoe size. Therefore, we advise ordering the same size you typically wear in other US shoe brands. The women's Clara Penny loafer generally fits true to your standard women's US shoe size. However, some women have found that going up a half size from their typical women's US shoe size results in a better fit, especially if they require more volume at the instep or in width. In our women's collections, we offer sizes 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 11, 12.
